| 12 | Major problems/prospects | APITCO completed soft interventions for the period 2003-2006. According to the End of the report some of the achievements and future road map are: Achievements Four units implemented energy conservation measures and achieved the following savings: Coal savings-Rs.1.8 lakhs per year Fuel savings-14.78% per year per unit Awareness on alternate fuels like gasification was generated in the cluster. Rapid Environment Impact assessment was conducted by the Dept. of Environment Studies, Andhra University and most of the units are implementing the suggestions given in the report Above 3000 trees were planted in the cluster as part of green belt area Awareness generation on alternate fuels like gasification for local manufacturers Future Road Map/ Prospects: The kiln technology and up gradation in manufacturing process and energy conservation should take a concrete shape in the cluster. Energy conservation measures should also be implemented in all units to save the fuels. Efforts can be made on R & D, Innovation on kilns and fuels, value addition, new products Alternate fuels and modern kilns need to be introduced to improve quality, productivity, energy conservation and environmental protection in the cluster. |
