12 Major problems/prospects In spite of the fact that Bhiwandi has large production base, there is very little marketing activity from Bhiwandi itself. Majority of the marketing of the fabrics produced in Bhiwandi take place from markets of Mumbai.
Out of the total production about 5% goes for direct or indirect export, about 20% goes for garment manufacturing and rest is mostly for domestic market for direct sale.
Catering mostly to cost base market. No brand identity or organized marketing strategy exists in the cluster.
A very few SME s also exist which cater with product to export markets. But they are facing the problem like lack of awareness of export procedures, Govt. Policies, etc.
Old /obsolete technology. Very few SME s (1%) are having advanced weaving technology based looms.
Under utilization of capacities due to electrical supply problem, labor shortage.
Most of the weavers are having their loom sheds in their residential house itself.
Family of most of the weavers is working as a labor in their own shed.
The work culture is not of high standard and this puts the processors in problem as it ultimately leads to inferior quality fabric.
Most of the work shed are without humidification plant system.
Most of the SME s do not have clarity about Techno economic operation of the unit.
Raw material seems to be one of the major concerns in the cluster. Yarn requirement is fulfilled by the local Yarn Suppliers, mostly from Southern India for cotton, open end yarn and synthetic yarn from Surat.
